Consequences
Extinction of the black rhino means that the horn of the rhino will no longer be available for anyone that may rely on the rhino horn for uses like medicine. Rhino horns would no longer be available which also means that people that relied on it as a source of income would no longer be able to use it for that purpose. In areas where modern medicinal treatment may not be available, the rhino horn that was normally used as a traditional treatment will no longer be available and the doctors that used it for that purpose will have to find alternate ways to create medicine for the people that are ill. Also poacher’s that normally hunt for the black rhino’s horn will start to hunt for other animals that have something of value which will hurt that population as well. Places that use the black rhino as a national symbol will lose that and also parks and organizations that are putting in effort to protect the black rhino and other endangered species may lose their funding to help protect endangered species hurting their efforts to protect the biodiversity. Also if the black rhino goes extinct it will affect the ecosystem that they used to inhabit. Some of the animals that relied on the black rhino as a food source may lose that opportunity and will have to adapt otherwise.
